All 1L students at Oregon Law enroll in the same classes in their first year, and the Law School Registrar takes care of registering all 1L students, so you don’t need to worry about registration! You’ll receive your class schedule and 1L section assignments prior to Orientation in August. You can expect to take the following classes each semester:

In the spring, all 1L students attend information sessions with the Student Success Team and the Law School Registrar to learn how to register for 2L classes.

You will receive your personal class schedule prior to orientation, along with textbook information. Textbooks may be purchased from the Duck Store. Due to last-minute matriculation updates with our first-year class, some students’ class sections may change during orientation week. Therefore, please do not purchase books until you have been officially instructed to do so.

If you do not already have a laptop, you are strongly discouraged from purchasing one prior to August 1st. We make this recommendation so that you will have a working laptop that remains under warranty when you take the bar exam after graduation. The Oregon Law IT staff will provide two laptop recommendations (Dell and Apple) in July that you can purchase for a special rate.

Oregon Law IT staff will communicate with you in August about the computer specifications required for you to most effectively access the UO system.

Loans and other aid are view-only in DuckWeb until July. You’ll be able to accept any loans and other aid you were offered in DuckWeb in July. You will receive an email from the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships prompting you to accept or decline each piece of aid you have been offered, and, for loans, you’ll be able to accept all or part of what you are offered.

The University of Oregon and the law school are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities, both visible and non-visible. Detailed information about services available to students with diagnosed disabilities is available from the University’s Accessible Education Center.

Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Sarah Keiski can answer general questions about the University’s formal accommodations process and how accommodations are implemented at the law school. Students with longer-term or permanent disabilities will be referred to the University’s Accessible Education Center to schedule an appointment. Students who have previously been diagnosed with a disability, regardless of whether they have received accommodations in the past, are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the AEC. Depending on the nature of your disability or how recently you completed testing, you may be required to provide updated documentation. You should also contact the AEC if you reside in campus housing and require an emotional support animal. The AEC can be reached at uoaec@uoregon.edu. Please note that the AEC is a busy office and it can take some time to complete the accommodations process, so don’t delay in reaching out now if you think you’ll need accommodations.

All UO students, including law students, have access to the University Health Center. The Health Center provides comprehensive free or low-cost medical services and resources, including primary care, mental health resources, dentistry, pharmacy services, physical therapy, and more. The University Health Center staff makes a presentation at orientation each year to provide an overview of their services and to answer questions.

All law students are eligible to purchase student health insurance through the University Health Center. Plan information is usually finalized and updated on the Health Center website in July, and open enrollment for the Fall 2024 will take place during the month of August. The Student Insurance Plan through the UO is a PPO, and the plan covers students worldwide, including in other states. The plan is through Pacific Source Health Plans. The University Health Center can also bill some other insurance providers if you elect not to purchase health insurance through the UO. Find out more here.

The University of Oregon requires all students to submit documentation that they have received certain vaccines. To learn more about required vaccinations, submitting records, and exceptions, visit the Immunization Requirements page on the Health Center’s website.

You’ll receive a reminder over the summer to submit your vaccine records. All domestic law students must have their vaccination records submitted by the start of Spring semester of their 1L year.
