Student Success

Oregon Law’s comprehensive curriculum supports your individual academic journey. We want you to feel confident the whole way through law school and be set up for success in your law career.  To ensure that we can dynamically support your journey with us, we offer programs and resources designed to support, enhance, and enrich your education.

Academic Excellence Program

The law school’s Academic Excellence Program (AEP) recognizes that law school is hard! AEP provides opportunities for students to participate in workshops to develop critically important law school skills, improve study skills, and develop the analytical techniques they need to be successful in law school. You’ll hear more about these opportunities during Orientation, but you can reach out to Professor Michael Loch if you have any questions.

Academic Advising

While all faculty members play a key role in providing academic advising to the students, the Academic Excellence Program helps you set the groundwork for that guidance in order to navigate graduation requirements and find the right mix of courses to support your success both in law school and on the bar exam.

First Year Workshops

Through a series of workshops and small group sessions offered during your first year, you will be introduced to key skills for success including case briefing, outlining and synthesis, legal analysis, and exam-taking skills.

Bar Support and Advising

In your third year of law school, you can take advantage of multiple opportunities that support your success on the bar exam. These opportunities include for-credit prep courses, a no-cost bar review course, and a supplemental bar program allowing you to meet on a regular basis with the Director of the Academic Excellence Program to practice key skills, review doctrine, and receive feedback.

Accessible Education

Disability is a valued part of our campus diversity. The University of Oregon and the law school are committed to providing equitable access for students with disabilities in academic settings and physical campus spaces.

Students with a qualifying disability, regardless of whether they have received accommodations in the past, are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the University’s Accessible Education Center (AEC). Detailed information about services for students with disabilities is available from the Accessible Education Center’s webpage. Depending on the nature of your disability or how recently you completed testing, you may be required to provide updated supporting documentation. You can contact Access Advisor Tyan Taubner with questions unique to your needs.

In the law school, Accommodations and Student Affairs Manager Antonia Keithahn is available to answer questions about the University’s formal accommodations process and how specific accommodations will be implemented. Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Sarah Keiski manages temporary adjustments for short-term disabilities, such as disability due to injury, pregnancy, or surgery recovery. If you are experiencing a temporary health need or are aware of a planned surgery, please contact Dean Keiski to discuss a plan.

Don’t delay in making these arrangements! The AEC is a busy office and it can take several weeks or even months to complete the accommodations process, especially if you need updated documentation. Planning for your individual needs is key to making a successful transition to legal education. We are here to support you!

Service animals are welcome in campus buildings. If you have a service animal, we recommend contacting Antonia Keithahn so the presence of an animal in the building is documented. Pets and emotional support animals are prohibited in all academic buildings, including the law school and the library, and may not run free on campus. You should contact the Accessible Education Center if you reside in campus housing and require an emotional support animal.
